Compressing JPEG images - HELP!

I'm trying to compress my images from more than 3MB to no more than 200k. I am not having any success in compression while maintaining the image quality. Any advice?

More compression = less quality.
To maintain even some kind of quality at 200KB or less you need to reduce the image size. 10 megapixel image at 200KB is not pretty.

I would suggest using a JPEG compression of 9 or 10 and an image width of 800-850 pixels for the optimal match of size and quality. I don't recommend compressing at full resolution.

As other have said, image size needs to go down if you want good image quality and a small file size.
----------------
Large Image Size | Good Image Quality | Small File Size

Pick 2.
