Lens misidentified in EXIF

Not sure if this is a LR3 error or an error with my K-x, but I just noticed that some photos I PPed with LR3 show the lens as the Sigma 70-200 whereas in reality it is the Sigma 50-150.
Thoughts?

Try checking the file with PhotoMe or ExifTool.

You might need to update its internal library. It could also be the case that this particular lens identifies itself ambigiously (for the software at least).

Third party manufacturers have used the same Lens ID code for multiple lenses in the past. This is probably the problem. I believe the lens includes only an ID code, not the actual description and the software (Lightroom) or whatever else you use is responsible for translating that from the EXIF into the text description. A lot of Pentax lenses were miss-identified in Lightroom through version 3.5 or 3.6. So it could be that the lenses are using the same ID code or Lightroom may have the same text for more than one code.

Try looking at the jpeg with Irfanview or Photome and look at the data, does it appear correctly there?

If it is reporting the actual focal length properly I wouldn't worry too much about it, I'd assume it is because the 70-200mm should never be at 68mm.

Sigma lenses are not 100% K-mount compliant (or whatever the right term is). This is not a Pentax or a Lightroom problem, it is a Sigma problem and a symptom of them reverse engineering it's lenses to be k-mount.

My Sigma 18-50 F2.8-4.5 OS HSM shows up as a 70-200 F2.8 Macro HSM II. Doesn't really matter unless I attempt auto lens correction in PP.

The issue is what was mentioned above. Each lens is assigned an identifying number by its maker. In this case, Sigma assigned the same number to their 70-200 and 50-150 lenses. Photo software will just pick one of those two lenses. Sigma has done this with other lenses -- I think the 17-70 shares a number with one of their other lenses. Anyway, nothing you can do about it as far as I know.
