Lost EXIF

I've been using Photomatix and Topaz a lot lately, but have noticed that the EXIF data is not passed back to Aperture after editing has been completed. Is there a way to fix this problem? For example software to stuff the middle exposure EXIF from Photomatix into the output?

You should be able to enter the data in Aperture it it's been stripped.

I don't think I can, at least it's not obvious how to do it. The blank metadata fields are grayed out - I can't activate them.

I think that it is likely stored in a separate file which are called xmp files if you use photoshop or lightroom. if they get erased or the program you use can't find it, then all the original settings in raw are lost, and likely the exif information will be gone as well.
not sure what type of file they are in photomatix, but google will likely help

good luck

Well, I use Aperture so not sure if the above comments on files apply. But I did Google, briefly, as you suggested (why didn't I think of that?) and found that exports in tiff or png format don't retain EXIF data. I'll check tonight and see if that explains things.

I very rarely use tiff, but what you said is good to know

Perhaps the lift&stamp tool for metadata ("Lift Metadata") will do the trick? I haven't noticed my external editor or plug ins stripping away the exif data even when the photo is exported as a tiff file.

Wow I thought for a minute you were really on to something here.... but when I tried this I found that the lift & stamp tool only lifts and stamps adjustments, not metadata. At least I think so - I didn't see any obvious way to do this.

Too bad. Good luck finding a working solution!
