Free noise software for raw

Are there any free noise reduction software available that work for dng files?Don't need noise reduction often enough to buy an expensive program
but occasionally one would come in handy.

What are you using to process the RAW with? Lightroom has built in noise reduction, maybe not as good as standalone but it is all I have needed.

Most Raw developing programs have noise reduction, is that not good enough? if not then you need to pay.

I'd have to say, Raw Therapee.

Not only is it one of the highest quality(demosaic engine) RAW developers out there but.. it also has a very good NR(noise reduction) engine as well.

PS. This software although fairly straightforward works best with a good understanding of RAW processing and development.

Noiseware Community Edition Standalone is free, but it only does JPEG, PNG, BMP and TIFF. So you'll need to export your DNG to one of those formats to use it.

There is a free plugin here that should work with PS, LR, and any other editors that support the use of Photoshop plugins, like Sagelight. Ximagic Denoiser

As others have stated, if you want to perform NR in the raw stage, you must first choose a raw conversion program. (Come to think of it, you need a raw conversion just to convert your DNGs.) There are many choices, all of which contain noise reduction features. For images with particularly high levels of nasty looking noise, one of the dedicated NR programs may work better. They must be applied post-conversion.

I downloaded Raw Therapee.and gave it a try for noise reduction and it worked fairly well.I bought a copy of Elements 10 just after it was introduced that I just found out
it has nr built in but find this program so hard for me to use that it just sets on the computer not being used.

Noiseware 5 is amazing. Jpeg only, but a huge improvement over the previous edition, which was already well respected.

Agreed. NW 5 Plugin is extremely effective and fast. I have only done head to head comparisons with Topaz DeNoise 5, and NW is more effective, easier to use and much faster.

My free preference is g'mic inside of Gimp and am happy with the results and options. See the enhancements section on this page for some of them.... and there are other smoothing options in the plugin as well.

For non-free, I really like Nik Define...
