Pentax .PEF files and Photoshop CS6?

Hi,

I have just upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and I cannot view my .PEF files (as images) through the CS6 image browser.

I have upgraded to Camera RAW plugin 7.1, but still no joy.

I still have CS3 on my computer and can see my files just fine in there.

Any other possible suggestions to view my .PEF files as images in CS6 please would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Jay

Just use DNG. Adobe will have to update Camera RAW for the K-5 II. There is no advantage to using PEF and Pentax is likely to drop it altogether in the next camera (the K-01 and K-30 have already dropped it).

In the meantime see if DNG converter can convert you PEFs to DNG.

Thank you Boriscleto,

Sorry, but I did not mention that I am still using the Pentax K200D. Is this in the wrong forum section?
I guess this would still apply to use the DNG converter then?

Thanks again, appreciated

I assumed you were asking about the K-5 II because that has been asked about 10 times this week

It's very strange that PEF would stop working in Camera RAW, the K200D is still listed as a supported camera, and in this case using PEF does have an advantage over DNG as the DNG in the K200D is v1.

Maybe try reinstalling Camera RAW or contact Adobe support.

Just what I had thought too.
Only just having installed Camera RAW 7.1 from version 7.0, I would have thought that would have been fine, as I also rebooted my machine too.
I was wondering sometimes why I hate change LOL :O

Off to do some more research..........or staying with Photoshop CS3

When the K200d and K20d were released, there was an advantage to PEF. PEF files at the time were smaller than DNG files. That is no longer the case.

Regardless of the DNG vs PEF issue, I just installed a new copy of CS6 and it updated automagically to ACR 7.2 and easily opened my old k20d PEF files.
