Changing EXIF Data

I want to experiment with something - I'm not even sure if it is the EXIF data is the right term......

I use DxO software for processing a lot of my images - the ones that they have a lens module for anyway. One lens I have is not listed as an available module - the Sigma 50-500 HSM OS. They do however list the 150-500 version of this lens.

I was wondering if I could change the embedded data of an image from the 50-500 to read as if it was the 150-500 and possible trick DxO into thinking it is a lens that the module would be applied.

You might find something that will work. Pentax RAW files may not be supported though:

Comparison of metadata editors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and also google "metadata editor"

otherwise you might be able to hand edit the xmp sidecar file if using Pentax RAW files.

Sigma's EXIF is notoriously "unique" so even changing the model name might not be enough for DxO to recognize it. On most Adobe software, the Sigma lenses show up as weird numbers (6 4 110) or as "Sigma or Tamron lens," so the folks at DxO might have gone through some hoops to get their software to recognize the 150-500, even.

(And you know, just because DxO doesn't support it, that's no reason to sell the lens... )

Ha - yeah I know......there are some other circumstances affecting my decision to sell other than any photographic reasons.

Exiftool and Exiv2 will both "do" Pentax PEF/DNG files. For a scripting example see https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/digital-processing-software-printing/2266...ma-lenses.html

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give exiftool a try to see what I can do with it.

GUI's never make things easier, just limits the options...but, yes , for the GUI adepts the exiftool one would be a good choice.

True, if you are still using a ASR-33 to communicate with your computer or if you like to keep your mind sharp by memorising railway timetables and byzantine command line options, then GUIs aren't for you. ExifTool GUI even lets you type in command line arguments, should you wish. And it lets you see pictures
