Where is the metadata?

When reviewing photos on my kx, I see f stop iso, shutter speed, etc, but when I copy it to my computer and look at the jpeg in my computer, the only thing in metadata is the date taken and the size. Does metadata not stay with the pic? Or do I have to use some other program to see it?
Also, can I put my name in the camera so it shows my name on the photos?
I don't save in RAW, since I don't know what to do with it and Paint Shop Pro doesn't recognize it.

The metadata should be embedded in the field. To check to see if it's there, try using this tool:

The metadata is embedded into the file and moves to the file, when when moved from the SD card to the PC. What are you using to look at the metadata? If you are just opening up the properties of the file, then there is limited data presented. You can use a standalone program like Photome (free) that will show you every field (just drag the image file into the utility). The post processing utility - silky should also show you a great deal if not all the data also.

Normally the metadata stays with file, so if you don't see it either was stripped out or the software you are using to view the file does not show it. What program (if any) are you using to move the files from the camera to the computer? If none, the data is still there and you just need a good viewer. Many programs do a good job of showing files and the metadata. Faststone viewer and Irfanview are both free. I don't use Paintshop Pro but I would be stunned if it did not show the metadata as well.

Thanks!

I was just using my computer to transfer from SD card to PC. and looking at the metadata there when I previewed a photo. Not sure how to get the metadata on Paintshop pro but I'll look for it. I'm not sure I got silky with my KX, if I didn't, can I download it from Pentax?
Thanks for all your help. It's good to know the info is still there, I just have to look for it in a different place.
