DXO optics pro support for K-3 PEF files

I can't find any info about this elsewhere on PF, so I thought I'd give folks the heads up-

What is new in DxO Optics Pro v9.1.1?
Support for 6 new cameras:
Nikon Df (Elite edition only)
Sony ICLE-A7 (Elite edition only)
Pentax K-3 (PEF only)
Sony DSC-RX10
Sony ILCE-A3000
Panasonic LF1
Minor improvements and bug fixes.

I'm downloading now, and will give an impression if required once I try it out.

I usually shoot in DNG. So I guess I have a decision to make.

Huh well that is odd. I don't see why they wouldn't also work with dng? If anything, its more often the other way around

I asked DxO why no out of camera DNG compatibility for the K-3 and got the following reply:

> Thank you for writing us, we are currently working on the module to get the DNG files recognized

> again. It should not be long for the fix to be created. My apologies for this.

So, we will be able to use DNGs shot with the K-3 in DxO Optics Pro some time soon.

Good work unkipunki. Thanks for the info

What I really want is for Capture One to get their act together and do the K-3 work, as I believe it is the best Raw Converter I've used.

I believe (from a similar enquiry to yours) that they will be doing it in the next month or so.

Apparently DNG files are not 'universal' and camera independent

I think the experience that K-3 users are having with the RAW formats (PEF and in camera DNG) is quite interesting. I had been under the impression that DNG was a 'universal' format; however, apparently the DNG files written by cameras are camera specific just like the proprietary (CANIKON or Pentax) formats. Why else would Apple OSX/iphoto not be able to recognize a k-3 DNG whereas the k5 DNG's are recognized. Why else could DXO pro now be able to read PEF but not K-3 DNG?

So what then is the advantage of in camera to DNG is there is no universal compatibility?

There is some evidence that the Exif data is being written differently by the K3. Maybe that is confusing the reading of DNG is some non trivial way. PhotoNinja recognized the camera but not the lens in K3 DNG. it cannot read K3 PEF at all. DXO clearly needed time to work out something with the K3 DNG.

DXO 9.1.2 (Build 1694) for Windows 7 (64-bit) now reads K-3 DNG files correctly.

The Previous build that opened K-3 DNG files seemed to have problems with the Multi-Auto White Balanced images, giving a wrong color temperature. That appears to have been sorted out with this latest build.

Not sure about DNG/PEF HDR files, though.
Cheers.

Thanks Lou, I've upgraded and the DNG files now work fine.

Now if I can only get Capture One to get off their backsides...

Contacted DxO support about processing the DNG/PEF HDR (multiple image in a single file).

Their reply:
" Hello Louis,

On such pictures, DxO Optics Pro 9 only processes the first picture in the series.
There is currently no plan to add an HDR algorithm in the software.

Best regards,

Marion

Cheers,

Probably will have to run the multi-image DNG through PDCU first to 'break apart' the DNG into its component images.
