PowerPoint Presentation ... free somewhere?

Hey folks!

I have been asked to make a presentation to a High School, not photography related (in a way) and I will need PP Presentation to be installed on the computer.
Is there a "free" version somewhere on the WEB that is "legit" ... doesn't have to be the latest, as long as it works.

Thanks for any info.

You could use Open Office for Windows. Very similar interface and features but free

Doesn't the school have this as an academic version in their software bundles?

OpenOffice Impress will get the job done for you, or even google docs. I haven't used Office proper since 2004.

No idea ... waiting for the student to get back to me.

I've never used either but I will certainly go and see what I can do.
Thanks!

Impressive choices!

I am now trying to decide if I'll go with:
1. Kingsoft Office Presentation or
2. OpenOffice.org Impress.

I have to embed some text, pictures, and parts of PDF documents for this presentation.
It has to be able to run under PP Presentation (which I think both can).

There is also LibreOffice Impress. Based on the same code base but developed by a different group.

LibreOffice 4.2 is here!

There are also websites that allow you to make presentations online. No files, you just log in and access it online and then show it in the browser. Like prezi dot com. But I don't know if you have the time to get familiar with it, and if the computer you will be using will have an internet connection. Just something to think about.

If you generate the presentation in powerpoint, when you are done, save the file, then save again using "save as" and choose "powerpoint show". It will be an executable format that can be viewed on any computer but not edited.

All good suggestions.
Thanks to all!

I am still undecided between
1. Kingsoft Office Presentation and
2. OpenOffice.org Impress

Because I am no computer "guru", I want something that is easy to understand/user friendly.

Once I have the PP file completed, it will go on a USB key and then brought to the student for him to "test".
Finally we will present it with a rather large projector to the crowd.
I wouldn't want to look like a total idiot out there!

Cheers.

I use Open Office. Does everything Windows does for no money. A bit slower here and there, but has all the functionality. You can even save most of it in MS Office format

As long as I am able to save the file so that it will work on the school/student Microsoft PowerPoint software, I'll be happy.
There will be some images (photos), text and maybe one short video. I could do without the video, but just in case I have one ready ... 1 minute video.
No music!

I'm with everyone else here.

MicroSoft Office makes you buy a new and improved version every couple of years, and that can get spendy. Open Office is free (well they do accept donations) and even converts file types back and forth from other office software types.

As Adam said, I changed to Open Office and never looked back.

Open office is straightforward and easy to install and use.

Easy Squeezy

No Pain

No Stain

So, this is where I have ended up:
Apache OpenOffice Downloads - Official Site
and once I click on that I get to the page here:
Download Apache OpenOffice from SourceForge.net

or from here:
http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/11/windows/download-open-office-free-replac...ft-office.html

I just want to make sure that this will the proper software for my needs.
