Topaz Labs Remask free upgrade

Check your inboxes... if you own Topaz Labs Remask 3, you might have a free upgrade available to you now to version 4.

No need to install a new key, just download the version 4 installer from their site and get going.

I bought Remask a couple of YEARS ago and they still gave me the upgrade free. woohoo.

I've tried it briefly, but haven't noticed a significant change in performance yet, just layout.

According to http://www.topazlabs.com/remask/usersguide.pdf
New ReMask 4 Features

1. Updated user interface. With a new and polished design,
ReMask is now more intuitive and easier to use.
2. Edge Shift detection. This new refining adjustments lets
you shift the mask edge by a few pixels in either direction.
3. New names for brushes. The brushes from older versions
have been been renamed as follows:
• Basic brush is now Primary brush
• Single color selection brush is now Color Range brush
• Dual color selection brush is now Transparency brush
4. Speed Boost. Improved and faster speed with the High
Quality Foreground Recovery algorithm. The Low Quality
option has been obsoleted.

I've used Remask 3 a lot. I've got a soccer match coming up on the 19th of July, so I'll get plenty of opportunities to use Remask 4 then when I use it in conjunction with FocusMagic to selectively correct focusing plane and motion blur problems.

Can't see a reason why I'd ever want to shift the edge of the mask a few pixels L or R?

Dan.

Been experimenting a bit further. The Edge Shift control expands or contracts the outer edge of the mask. So it helps if you have a problem with background bleeding around the whole edge.

If it's just one part of the edge that's got a problem, you'd be better off using the normal refine controls.

An interesting use of ReMask 4 & Clarity to replace a boring sky. I'm surprised that the faked refection of the sky on the water turned out so well.
