I'm not a Mac user or Aperture user but I do use an iPad as my travel solution for photo viewing and also I store some photos on as a portable portfolio. iOS8 doesn't support iPhoto as I discovered when I downloaded the update yesterday. I haven't played with the new "Photos" app yet to offer an opinion but it does offer a lot of editing features. Consider iPhoto a thing of the past effective immediately if you are an iOS user and plan to upgrade to iOS8.
The new "Photos" has a pretty good set of editing options. Tap the "edit" in the upper right of the screen and it brings you into the editing mode with icons at the bottom. There is the crop, the filters (which is the same as far as I can tell), and an icon that looks like a clock but brings up the adjustments.Tap it and it brings you to another menu with "Light", "Color", and "B&W". The light gives you controls for exposure, highlights, shadows, brightness, contrast, and black point. Colors gives you control for saturation, contrast, and cast (which appears to be a color temperature correction). The B&W offers and intensity, neutrals, tone, and grain sliders. It appears to be a very useful editing app, much more than iPhoto offered. I haven't attempted to load any RAW photos yet to see if it's supported but iOS has supported RAW formats in the past. Since I don't use Aperture, I can't say how it differs in regards to file handling.
