I have a Mac IOS 10.6.8. Topaz is too expensive for me

If you already have photoshop, there are assorted filters that might give you a vaguely similar effect.

Regretfully, I do not. I use LR4 for most of my processing. Thank you for the quick reply, though.

If you have GIMP, I'd imagine there is stuff out there. You just may have to find it, and it probably won't be as simple as what you can get using Topaz or even Photoshop.

there are a fair number of free/cheap standalone apps that convert photos into 'paintings' -- try google. here are a few:
FotoSketcher | Turn photos into art for free for windows
Glaze by The 11ers for iOS
PhotoArtista - Oil for Mac | MacUpdate for mac
http://www.gertrudisgraphics.com for mac and windows both...

Picasa has a lot of functions that you might like. I like it mostly because it is really fast and has basic tools for adjustment of pictures.
