Lens Profiles without Adobe.

Hello All, sorry if this has been asked before, I searched but didn't come up with anything.

I have a strong aversion to Adobe products and use entirely free software for my photo editing. Currently I'm using Raw Therapee for RAW editing and GIMP for anything weird that involves layers. I'd like to be able to use lens profiles to correct for distortion etc.

Is there any way of legally obtaining the Adobe profiles without buying Lightroom or Photoshop?
I've found the thread on the forums where people posted up theirs and while they're good it would be nice to get some other ones.

Failing the Adobe stuff, does anybody know whether it's possible to get a RAW editor to read the lens corrections Pentax cameras do in-body?

Cheers, Unsane

There's a free Lens Profile Downloader by Adobe, just google it or see here:
RawTherapee • View topic - SX50HS and Lens Correction Profile

There's also a Lens Profile Creator, also by Adobe, that enables you to make your own lens profile for a particular lens/camera combination. It is, however quite a time-consuming process.

If you are Adobe-averse you might want to try Photomatix, an HDR software tool which develops RAW files in pretty much all formats. It isn't free software (in either sense - you have to pay for it and it's proprietary) but I've found it really useful.

I have a strong aversion to Adobe products as well. As an IT professional, both their business practices (and I'm not talking about cloud or licensing here) and their ongoing history of numerous security vulnerabilities (some of which are due to their business practices) are utterly unacceptable.

DXO Optics Pro does a very good job with the profiles, and this free version is awesome. I really like it. Get it while you can:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/94-pentax-price-watch/276465-dxo-optics-pro-8-free.html
Downsides of this product: 1. As far as I can tell you cannot create new profiles so you depend on them. 2. Some of the newer profiles are only included with newer versions (9, 10).

In case I didn't make it clearly enough, those two "tools" are free to download, and you don't have to sign anything/register anywhere, you just download them and download the profiles from the Adobe database, and you can also download user created profiles.

There's even some profiles for old SMC-M lenses!

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I was aware of the lens profile downloader and have got a few good ones off there. I mainly use M series lenses anyway, so that's quite nice. I might give making my own profiles a go at some point, though it does look rather time-consuming.

I'll have a look at DXO Optics, that certainly looks interesting. I like to use Open Source whenever possible, but expensive software for nothing can occasionally lure me away...

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I'm still running XP so my choices of 'modern' software is limited somewhat.

That was one good and long-lived OS... a pity it's not supported anymore...
Depending on the hardware, I bet you could upgrade to Win 7 (maybe foregoing the "Aero" or "Glass" thingy, can't remember exactly what's called...) at a bargain price...

My hardware could easily manage 7, it's just the price that puts me off. That and I feel that if I did ever upgrade for myself (family PC so the OS has got to suit everyone) it would probably be the Linux route; I'm not a big fan of Microsoft stuff nowadays.

Thanks for those todd. I seems that some actually come bundled with Adobe DNG Converter, which is free. I'll try downloading that later and seeing what comes with it.

Thanks for all the replies, this lot should keep me going.
