Thinking about a new display - Dell U2413?

Thinking of buying a Dell U2413 but what else should I consider? It will be used alongside an Eizo S2242W and I mostly do photography. I don't play games or watch videos so weaknesses in those areas don't bother me.

Absolute Requirements:
  • Under £400 including VAT etc.
  • 24" - there isn't room on my desk for a bigger monitor
  • DVI & HDMI connections
  • Tilt, swivel, height, rotate stand adjustment

Big Pluses for:
  • 1920 x 1200 resolution
  • Wide gamut

Not required:
  • VGA
  • Displayport
  • Sound
  • USB

Hi Cats,
I also have an Eizo 2242W and it is coming up to 16,000 Hours.
I just got an Eizo 2762W 27 inch, 2560 by 1440 pix, with 3 by 10 bit (30 bit truecolor)
That monitor is a bit big for your desk.
I am scanning 6x7 to 16 bit tiffs so I thought I would upgrade to truecolor as these monitors last many years, and 8 bit monitors are now the limitation for the digital camera images too.

I see some monitors can do a pseudo 10 bit with dithering from an 8 bit jpg over the DVI link, but I don't know if that Dell has that.
The newer DisplayPort link is 30 bit but needs a Pro grade GPU card (expensive)

I would mention that the new Eizo had an unexpected advantage, its stand allows the screen to drop right down to the desk. That helps me get a viewing angle more natural, as the old Eizo can only drop down to about 100mm above the desk.

I would consider that in any future monitor purchase.

Dell U2413

After couple of months of looking around I finally bought a Dell U2413 about a four weeks ago and I am seriously impressed with it, its a great monitor.
It was only when the new Dell arrived did I realize how the old Dell monitor had lost contrast and brightness over its seven year life.

Next time around 4HD.

this time I am satisfied. I can hardly see the pixels and the color is excellent.

Next year FF and 4HD. Wait if you will but this year the color gamut ruled.

Peace?

Thanks, I've ordered a Dell. TFT Central reports that the panel is an LM240WU9-SLA1, with 8-bit +FRC (10-bit) colour depth.

I hope your new monitor turns out OK and will be interested to hear.

Your Eizo 2242W has a TFT and is 8 bit channels with 10 bit time based dithering (I think).

I have generated some skin toned gradient test images so I can check the new Eizo 2762W (truecolor 10 bit) against the 2242W.

I have not got around to it yet.

It was quite a project to get all the hardware and the nvidia quadro drivers running and upgrading to Fedora 20. I think it is all working now but I still have to install some 16 bit photo processing apps (Cinepaint). I have Darktable working. I find Darktable a bit advanced for my usage, it would be better suited to a photographer doing batches of images rather than my fooling around with one at a time.

This is a gradient test pattern 8 bit jpg, taken from the below tiff
https://app.box.com/s/hjc852fhi32y2uqtitl6ahjpe2xvf11p

This is a 16 bit tiff which has 2048 steps of color and so 11 bit (33 bit) resolution
https://app.box.com/s/gvm9lllrhtat9pkjy7928g4fgmdyedcn

It is interesting that, even on the 8 bit Eizo, the 16 bit tiff has a smoother gradient than the jpg. Not sure why.
