I believe it depends to some extent on your preferences. Most of my Silkypix experience comes from using the 3.0 version that came bundled with my K30. I generally find the camera JPG output is more pleasing than what I can get using Silkypix. Even with considerable fiddling, I find that the camera's JPG engine does a better job on balancing noise reduction vs detail retention.
I realize that the camera's JPG engine is supposed to be based on Silkypix, but I'm guessing that it has been optimized for Pentax cameras, while the branded Silkypix converter is a generic converter. Since PDCU seems to be able to replicate the camera output with ease, I would guess that PDCU is the camera's JPG engine with a quick and dirty UI bolted on. In other words, I think PDCU and Silkypix are related ( perhaps very closely ), but are not identical.
So if you like the Pentax camera rendering, you will probably like the output of PDCU ( and I do ). I'm not crazy about the PDCU UI however. Lots of people complain about Silkypix as well, but I found that once I figured it out, it's one of the most "usable" converters I've ever tried, and works very well with my workflow. But generally, I still prefer the PDCU output.
For a long time, the only version of PDCU I had was an older version that came with my K200D. I liked the output but wasn't crazy about the interface. Plus, it wouldn't work with my K30 RAW files. The Silkypix that came with my K30 was more usable, but I didn't like the output quite as much, and it wouldn't convert my K200D raw files. I tested a number of other converters - ACR via Elements, Rawtherapee, Silkypix 6.0, DxO - hoping to find a single converter that was usable, yielded pleasing output, and would handle RAW files from both cameras. DxO 8.0 generally had the best output of the bunch, but I found it had a few shortcomings in the usability department. Of course that's subjective and opinions will differ.
I only recently discovered that the most recent version of PDCU will convert my K30's RAW files, and have not yet had time to familiarize myself with the UI. A few quick tests confirm that the output looks very good indeed.
In conclusion, my own opinion is that Silkypix is much more usable than PDCU ( especially if you exploit the presets/tastes that can be set up ), but I prefer PDCU's output.
