Photoshop Elements and K-3 PEF files

I just took the plunge and bought a k-3 to replace my k-5. After firing off a few test shots in PEF format, I tried to open them in Photoshop Elements 10. The program didn't recognize the file format. Does anyone know what version of Elements is needed to open k-3 PEF files? (I have Lightroom 5.7, and that recognizes the k-3 files, but I like to use Elements for stuff I probably won't be keeping.)

Don't use PEF, use DNG. You should have less issues. Also, you can convert to DNG on import to Lightroom and then edit in Elements. But no reason to use PEF over DNG and you do get better compatibility with DNG.

Hope that helps.

You might need to download the current version of ACR. I had to upgrade previous versions every time I got a new body...

Yup, just go ahead and switch to DNG. You can convert your existing PEF files to DNG using the supplied Pentax software.

As others have suggested, there is no need to save RAW in PEF files, just save in DNG format which is widely supported.
