Os X El Capitan

hey guys hope all is well.
with recent release of mac's new os i am puzzled to restore my usual workflow which was "edit photos in LR - export via a plugin to iPhoto - publish to different social media and so on".
with the new os iphoto has been replaced with a new app called photo. so my plugin nolonger works.
any idea how to export directly from lightroom into it bypassing exporting to my hd?
thanks.

You can publish to social media directly from LR6. What version are you using? I have mine set up for Flickr and facebook, but others are possible too. Launch the Lightroom Publishing Manager from the Library module.

thanks for your answer. i am aware it is possible but i use iphoto as my main photo viewer and organizer. i do have a large iphoto library and would like to keep it that way if possible. i am open to other options but so far haven't come across any solid substitute.

I'm a long term Aperture user, so I understand your pain. However, my understanding is that Photos is specifically designed to be "social media friendly". It can also automatically import your whole iPhotos library. As far as I can see, Photos sucks as an editor, but if that's not what you use it for, it may actually be perfect for you.

the thing is that i am used to exporting my photos from LR direct to iphoto via a plugin. so there's no middle man in terms of exporting to my hd and then to iphoto. with photos i am no longer able to do so. i will have to export to hd first and then import to photos which i absolutely don't want to do. i installed el capitan for a day and was pretty happy with it but as soon as i started doing my thing with photographs i rolled back immediately. i am back on mavericks for now. looking for a solution.

I don't use Lightroom. Personal choice, but have been using Aperture for a long time and got very use to it. I like the way it organises. I have been experimenting with Photos on El Capitan since the public beta came out and although I have been less than impressed at first it is evolving. It now allows plugins and the first couple aren't too bad. I am hoping that Topaz and Nik come on board and then it is a real replacement for Aperture/iPhoto. I haven't transfered my Aperture library yet, but it is close to time to do so. As for posting to social media Photos will be good for that, and I hope the Adobe does give you what you need with a plugin.

well the plugin i am using right now is put together by some guy not adobe unfortunately. there are no official adobe plugins to export from LR to iphoto as of today that i know of. sucks big time. all i need to be happy is a simple way to export my edited images straight from LR to photos without needing to export to my HD first.

Now that's interesting to hear you say that, as that's exactly the main functions I use Lightroom for... organising, viewing, keywording, collections, image searching etc.

The image tweaking side of Lightroom is just a bonus for for me, that said I now do 90 odd percent of that in Lightroom.

What do you find that iphoto does better in terms of workflow differently to Lightroom?

I prefer keeping my edited photos separate from raw files. In iphoto i only see edited shots. One of the other things is i use a local photo lab for printing, scanning and whatnot. When i need prints i select photos in iphoto and drag n drop them on to the lab page and done. Photos app no longer allows me to do so.

All this is quite doable within Lightroom, it would involve just a slight change to your workflow, should you choose to go this route, it's one step less and one set of software less.

When you export your jpegs from Lightroom, as you already are to get them into iphoto, you can specify any directory you like to put them in, so they are edited jpegs or whatever in one place and separate from your raws. You will then be able to drag and drop from there as you are now to your print house.

the thing is that my image folder is loaded with a bunch of subfolders of raw files i import from my sd card. my iphoto library is behind a little icon called the same. to go your proposed way i would need to create a separate folder for my edited stuff and at this point of time i'm not up for that as getting the photos out of iphoto library is a pain in the butt if you've ever tried to do that.
