Is there a thread anywhere (I guess maybe Post your Photos...) for omparing the basic results that come out from different PP editors without too much expert work in that software? Kind of like the LR vs AP thread:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/32-digital-processing-software-printing/...-feedback.html

I've only ever used Darktable, but it seems like most PP softwares have their own somewhat unique 'Feel' to the images that most easily come out.

I wonder what RawTherapee's 'feel' is.

Here's my workflow using Geequi, Raw Therapee and Gimp.

I chose the picture in Geequi and exported it to Raw Therapee. Here is the original shot:

I changed the pp3 to Deep Shadows, which is one that is included with Raw Therapee. I enabled film simulation and chose Fuji Velvia Generic 100 at 16. I changed white balance to 5178, exposure compensation to .83, exposure saturation to 22. From here I exported as .jpg and opened in Gimp. I cropped to my liking, made a small level adjustment, very light unsharp mask and was finished. Granted, there's a lot of noise, but considering the image was made with a K100D and a Quantaray macro zoom, I'm ok with it.

I am posting this not to show how a post-processing master might use Raw Therapee to make the perfect image, but to show anybody sitting on the fence on raw processing how easy it is. For the most part, the adjustments were made by trial and error. I used the section in RawPedia, "Basics", as my guide.

Current development version of RawTherapee has some new tools which address the noise in flat areas.

For reference

I need to bite the bullet and spend more time with RawTherapee. The developers seem to be on fire.

UPDATE!

I'm uploading a new batch of experimental PP3 files. I've been playing with settings to get sharper images without getting so many artifacts. Good stuff!

You'll need to have the latest version of RawTherapee. See this post on how to get the latest version. Try them out!

^ You're welcome. My main reason for doing this is so that I can shoot worry free up to ISO 12800 with my K-50 bodies. Obviously I try to shoot the lowest ISO possible, but I know that I can still get a usable image at ISO 12800 if I end up shooting that high. Since this is my main RAW developing program, I keep playing with it whenever I have a chance. I also use DxO on occasion, but RawTherapee is pretty much the one that I use almost all the time.

But yeah! The developers have been going non-stop on this project. Their tireless efforts allow us to have this really good RAW developing program for free!

Pentax and DCU profiles

When I use RT I notice the default color is different than my camera and the settings like Natural, and Landscape in DCU. Is there a way to load a photo with the same settings used in the camera like in DCU5?

^ Not really. Pentax DCU is the only software that can do that.

The closest thing would be creating a dcp file.

The next closest thing would be changing the tone curve type to standard. RawTherapee currently defaults to film-like. No way to automatically set that yet.

UPDATE!

I'm uploading a new batch of experimental PP3 files. Been toying around with some newer settings. I'm just uploading a basic set without a Pixel Shift set. You'd just have to go the the RAW tab & set the demosaicing to Pixel Shift.

You'll need to have the latest version of RawTherapee. See this post on how to get the latest version. Try them out!

^ Thanks. My next batch of PP3 files will have 3 folders. One for non-pixel shift, one for pixel shift, & one for optional PP3 files for more processing options. I should have them by the time the next stable version of RawTherapee is released.

UPDATE!

I've created a generic 64bit build for a Windows 7/8/10 machine. Some recent experimental profiles are already installed.

If you want to try it out, you can download the zip HERE. Just extract it & install it. Once installed, it'll be ready for use.
