It's OK to come to that conclusion.
I came to the same conclusion. When I used Lightroom, it was back around versions 2 & 3, and I had it installed on a somewhat under powered PC. I didn't like the fact that any organization had to be done from within Lightroom.
Worse, I hated the fact that to even look at a photo, I had to import the entire folder and wait for Lightroom to generate previews, etc. There was no such thing as taking a quick crop of a single photo, and that was a deal breaker for
me, even if I could sort out how to live within Lightroom's organizing structure.
I like the flexibility of organizing my photos manually, and I like the flexibility of being able to use a number of RAW converters, exploiting the strengths of each as needed. I use FastStone as my browser and for simple edits. I use
PDCU and DxO for RAW conversion ( I have also used Silkypix and Rawtherapee on occasion ).
If I need to do more complicated edits, then I will fire up PSE.
My current desktop would probably handle Lightroom just fine, but I have no desire to give it another try. YMMV.
