Silkypix

Going through my Pentax box I noticed the Silkypix CD... woops missed that first time round :P

What's the deal with this software? Worth installing? I already use Lightroom and have now just noticed Nik is free...

Cheers,

Bruce

If you already use LR forget SilkyPix. It's weird.

I use it and like it. Not as slick as LR, but free.

First time i used it, was kind of laggish, buggish (slow, and a weird frame rate) on the version for the K30, when i change the camera for a K3 and use the other version that come with it, it was better, more fluid almost no lag, but at that time im very used to ACR+PS, and try to make my way to CaptureOne (i think the images are sharper on the C8) but the change of workflow is the worst for now.

My opinion is if you already are using Lr and want to maintain in it, forget Silkypix, is good, but unless you want to change all you already know on Lr you really dont gonna use it.

The k3 version ran better on a PC I used to have than it does on my Mac (about 4-5 years old) but with current OS.

I like it for basic processing.

If you shoot a K3 and take HDR RAW, you'll need the Pentax DCU (Silkypix). It's also useful if you want to process RAW to look exactly like OOC jpegs. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it.

Thanks. Yeh I have teh K-50 and seem to be fine with LR etc, I just wondered if it was specialised HDR post processing or summin. Cool.
