Adobe Camera Raw

Please tell me about Adobe Camera Raw. Apparently it is the best software for converting RAW to JPEG, right? Is it only available as a plug in for Adobe Photo Shop or can it be used or purchased as a separate product? I'm new at this so any info about the subject is appreciated.

It comes with Photoshop and Lightroom, so if you subscribe to Adobe Photoshop CC, you'll get access to the latest version.

Also, the formal name is Adobe Camera Raw.

Also a cut down version is included with Adobe's Photoshop Elements. PSE in itself a cut down version of the full Photoshop and very useful especially for beginners.

Depends what you like, and what you mean by "well."

It processes them. If you appropriate tools and adjustments you can get amazing images. But as with conversion to JPEG, the Adobe defaults aren't as punchy (or garish) as what you get in JPEG from the camera, or by default in PDCU. But you have more customization.

Adobe's conversion of K-1 PSs had some odd coloring; early reports of the most recent update this week indicate that's been fixed. That problem didn't exist with K-3II images.

Also, conversion in Adobe doesn't do motion correction. You'd have to use PDCU or dcrawps for that. Or use traditional post processing tools in Adobe's or other's software to do it.
