Linux here too. Ubuntu at work and Debian at home.
Everything just works for me, I use a combo of GIMP, UFRaw, FSpot and Bibble for my work + some custom python scripts to do my backups and mirroring stuff.

My problem with Digikam is that it insists to copy all images to it's own folder, which is my case is not possible. That's why I chose the (slightly behind) FSpot
