Dxo OpticsPro 9 Elite free until the end of the month

You Can Get a Copy of DxO OpticsPro 9 Completely Free for a Limited Time

Download it within the month and it is free for you to use forever. They give you a license key so you can reauth it at a later time after you initially install and authorize it now.

This is 2 versions old from latest but it does support up to the original K-3 and comes with the PRIME Noise Reduction. It also comes with a handy LR plugin that will auto import files back and forth between the two applications.

This license is non-upgradable fyi.

Yep, definitely give it a try. Have been a happy user of DxO OpticsPro since Elite version 10 and never looked back. Don't get distracted by their questionable measurebater's-heaven dxomark website. This is a pretty competent raw converter indeed.

My quick tests are favorable for the PRIME engine.. it isn't a silver bullet for NR but it really does seem to clean up more while retaining more detail than just the built in NR in LR.

I still like LR for what it is, but could easily see myself using the little bridge plugin thing to throw my DNGs into OpticsPro, process with the PRIME, and have the software automatically toss it back into my LR catalog. That's super handy and I'm glad they allowed these two (competing no less) products to 'talk' to each other.

Thanks for letting us know. I have used previous version (8). Visual Interface suites me better than LR. I will buy license for latest eventually, but now will stay with that free 9 for awhile.

Question. How does the DXO compare to the ACR packaged with Photoshop Elements.

Well.. I think that is subjective.

You may find the processing in DxO to be pleasing, while others may not. That's not a cop out but I think an honest answer.. I like some qualities of both but I'm sticking with LR for processing. However, you may feel the other way after trialing.

Since it is free I'd say give it a go and see what you think!

Can't beat free. I use this on occasion as well. Even the HIGH NR can do a wonderful job of cleaning an ISO 25600 RAW file from my K-50 while still retaining some fine detail.

The downside is that this won't open K-S2 or K-70 files, nor most of the files out of the Q cameras, but if you have a K-3II or older, you're gold. It doesn't process pixel shifted RAW files, though.

Free is free indeeeed.

But will it not open K-70 DNGs at all? I know they claim they don't support the newer Pentax bodies, but have you tried? I wonder if there is some kind of profile for the PRIME NR or if that is modeled per image...

^ Nope. Only K-3II or earlier. It'll open K-S2 & K-70 jpegs, but not RAW files.

Well that's a bummer. But at least it is working with the K-3!

Well... I got it, but it just continuously crashes. Like the moment I open it, it crashes. Can't use it. I have the 2016mbp - any ideas?

Glad it works for you now. I saw someone else on DPR mentioning it was crashing for them too on OSX. I'm running Windows 10 so I am of no help there.
