basic PP procedures

I am just wondering what are some of the most simple and easy things to do with Gimp and a few minutes PP work to get some pictures looking better than straight from the camera.

Cropping and resizing are both pretty straightforward in Gimp. You can even crop at an angle to straighten up framing.
