Originally posted by Wasp I am running Ubuntu 18. Darktable 2.6 is not in the official repository yet. If you are impatient to try the new version (like me) here is what works:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa
mjdebruijn/darktable-release
The smiley should be a colon followed by a lower case P. Sigh...
You can then do the upgrade in the usual way:
sudo apt-get update
apt upgrade darktable

Darktable Releases : Pascal de Bruijn Hmmmm. I just upgraded Mint 17.3 to 18.3 (xenial based), and de Bruijn's PPA is only supplying at this writing DT version 2.4.4 for the xenial version of Ubuntu per his information. This is confirmed by DT 2.4.4 being installed as a result of adding the PPA. I'm unclear whether (a) the xenial compatible version will be upgraded to 2.6.0 in the fullness of time, (b) I should upgrade Mint further to 19.x to get DT 2.6.0, or (c) with great agony, use the tar.xz file to build a version with unknown compatibility for Mint 18.3.
In any case, it seems that 2.6.0 will not be the result of upgrading through the PPA if one is using Mint 18.X.
