Nero Express

I can't seem to burn any more than 99 image files to a CD using Nero Express, but I have 176 from a wedding I did last month and wanted to put them on 1 disk for the family.

Anyone know of a setting that needs changing, or another way of burning, or any other software that I can use to get all these files on the 1 disk?

I don't know why it would not write more than 99 images to CD, but you could try packing them in a .zip file and write them all as one huge archive. (it's less convenient, but it does the job)

How would the people the disk is for be able to access a zip file when they want to see and/or print the photos?

What size are the image files (MB)?
Use a dvd instead of a cd...4-5GB vs 700MB.

You can put hundreds of photos (or other types of files) as data files on a CD. The problem is that you can only have 99 tracks on a CD. So create a data disk rather than a photo disk.

It's possible that CD/DVD players which can play MP3s or display JPEGs directly off a CD may also have a 99 (or is that 999?) file per directory limit to do this (as compared to playing them from a PC), so you may wish to store the files on the CD in two or more directories for maximum compatibility.

Dan.

Don't use CD's anyway, as already said, there's a lot less space on CD's.
Another thing, if you burn to DVD, they should be viewable directly from a DVD player instead of having to download them to a computer.

Yeah what size are the files, roughly. You could be just running out of room.

Or what Dan said.

oooOOOooo lots of stuff... the files I'm trying to copy to disk are 8X12X300dpi .jpgs. When I tried to do a CD (copying image files) I got the 99 file limit which I hadn't seen before.

When I tried to do a DVD (copying a data disk), it made an image file on my HDD but instead of copying it to a DVD it told me I need to put a CD into the burner (a DVD was already in there), which of course wouldn't be big enough for the file.

Am at a loss, but will try it again in a little while.

8x12x300dpi.jpgs will measure between 6 and 12 Mb, depending on compression and the picture itself. That means you can fit between 60 and 110 (aprox) files into a 700 Mb CD. As someone said here, If you are making a photo CD, the limit is 99 tracks, but if you are making a Data CD, I beleive there is no limit.

Maybe the 99 file limit is a coincidence. To check, select those 99 files (pics) from your hard drive and check its combined properties. How much do they measure as a group?

I'm not sure you specified what kind of writing you're trying to do.

Do you want to make a photo DVD for playback on standalone DVD players, or a regular data DVD?

Although I've personally never made anything but the latter, it could be that Nero Express goes into stupid mode when trying to write more than 99 pictures as a photo-only DVD.

I just want to put the .jpgs on a disk so the people I'm sending it to can take it to the store and print the photos. As they don't have a computer I'd also want them to be able to view the photos on the tele (via a DVD player).

I fooled with it again last night and got this error message...

@sure... diffinately a DVD burner
@k100d... I will try that too

Nero Express

Can the DVD media that you are using, handle an 8X burn?

I would recommend going one level below the maximum level. For instance my media can burn at 16x but I burn it at 12x to lessen the likely hood of any issues.

I use Nero Express and it can definitely burn more than 99 files when you create a data disk. I hope you find the solution to your problem.

Sidenote:
When making a data disk make sure you are going to the "data" icon and not the "copy and backup" or the "photo and video" icon.
