First tries in selective editing

I finally got the time to read my PP manual and made my first attempt in selective editing, here you can see the before and after images. I might be blind to see beyond the newly learned technicalities, so I would appreciate your comments..

My aim was to bring the main subject in focus and put the background to, well, to the background...

I like it, though I think there is too much light on the statue compare to the background.

Yeah I think the setting here has more importance than the edited version allows, so maybe it's a bit too dark relative to the statue. But that's only a maybe.

I think you've managed to isolate the subject quite well in the editing, which is the hardest part. I would maybe make the background just a little more "lively", it's a bit dull gray now. Also, when looking at the image a little longer, I noticed the water falling from the basin on the left side looks like it's part of the background. It's probably damn hard to select it properly, but maybe zooming close and painting (at least some of) the drops on the mask would work?

But quite impressive as it is!

Thank you!

Some alternative routes come to my mind after reading your comments:

The background was both blurred and grayed, maybe I try less graying and more blurring, and handle the people in the left bottom corner separate from the building background.

Also, yes the falling water was left out of the mask, so I just have to be more thorough.

Also I'll try to balance the brightness of different elements.

Thanks again..
