Does your last mentioned solution work in a meaningful way?

I have the same issue. Some TIFF edits get as large as 1 GB or more. Hard drives and Backups fill up in no time.

I can't imagine what it would be with a 100 MP or 150 MP image...

Here's a thread here about it all;

Smaller .Tiff Files? | Lightroom Queen Forums

It's still active.

It's an interesting one for sure, I just searched my backup HDD for *.tif and they are most definitely the culprit for taking up disk space. I have been making the mistake of not flattening .tif files and even visiting PS for simple things like bordering and watermarking at a cost of 100mb per image. If I deleted all my tiff files from my catalogs I have clawed back some 600gb of space! I shall actually need to go through each catalog and decide which tif files I should keep per image (ones that had important layering/filters used) and which tiffs are just border stuff that could be easily done again should I need to.

I've gone back to LR/Mogrify 2 as a bordering tool, completed on Export, in future that should help keep the file sizes down. I just need to visit PS as least as possible...

I didn't know about BGP, the demo to test the difference is quite interesting. Why did it lose if it was better?

I think it is about the licence : "Some of the HEVC algorithms may be protected by patents in some countries"...
