SIlkyPix Pro V4 (beta) launched

It appears that SilkyPix have launched a new (beta) version of their Raw converter software with many new features:

They have a dedicated site for the new Pro version, but it's only available in Japanese as yet, hopefully we shall have a Japlish version shortly ];-)

Here is a link to the google translated site, it is fairly easy to get an idea what is featured.
http://translate.google.co.uk/... ...op.html%23003&sl=ja&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

Unfortunately it seems that the beta won't load on English based installations for some reason, but that is being investigated.

The price to upgrade the Japanese version is 10,000 yen, which is around $100 or £63 at todays rates, the price for an English version is not fixed yet.

There is a thread about all this on the SilkyPix forum:

Looking forward to this - I am still of the opinion that Silkypix V3 has no peers so version 4 should be an absolute beaut.

The best I can suggest is John Nevill's e-book on SilkyPix V3.0, it's not free, but a very reasonable £2.50. Very highly recommended.

I hope this question is not to ridiculous but as Pentax users do we have license to use SilkyPix Studio 3 without purchase as bundled with the Pentax softwore or is SilkyPix just embedded in the Pentax Photolab software.

Sorry to say, but...

As far as I know; we, the Pentax camera owners, have no license at all for a Silkypix brand product. The fact that PPL uses their "engine" does not entail a license for their own product.

buy Samsung - they bundle branded SilkyPix _v3_ w/ the camera (what is their equivalent of K20D ?)...

Photolab is based on SilkyPix _v2_ "engine".

But you can always download a free version of SilkyPix where some functionality will be disabled.

note that some people recommend to suppress noise reduction in SilkyPix
to get sharper image

based on that I typically put all 3 sliders in "Noise Canceller" to zero and "Noise Reduction" to zero, "False Color Ctrl" to its default value.

that way I can get sharpness on par w/ Rawtherapee w/ HPHD demosaicing & deconvolution sharpening (default setting for deconvolution) selected there.

According to another forum the beta phase of DSPro is over and the full version is about to be released. According to translation below it will be available for sale from http://www.silkypix.com from 16th December

Translated version of http://www.isl.co.jp/SILKYPIX/japanese/special/dsp/news/news_20081201.html

NB I am not sure if this is Japanese only or if it includes the English version. Any japanese readers able to help out ?

also digging around in translated pages it seems that the beta has been updated too.

It's the Japanese version. The English version is scheduled for the Spring.
