Originally posted by Madaboutpix Rather tellingly, they don't even mention DxO DeepPrime (which is at work in both PhotoLab and PureRaw) when they are comparing ON1 NoNoise with "the other leading image noise removal products" on the market. (Instead, they are including Lightroom, which is not known for particular finesse at noise reduction.) And while the noise removal in the samples might appear impressive, the retention of detail ... um ... does not so much.
As a fellow DxO PhotoLab user, that was my view too. No noise needn't mean no detail.
It's also very handy having noise reduction integrated into the RAW processor rather than as a plugin.
Originally posted by Paul the Sunman I wrote to ON1 asking if this new capability will be incorporated in their main ON1 Photo Raw photo-processing software, or just be a standalone. They said there has been no announcement of such a move, which does not rule it out. It seems unimaginable to me that it would not be, but it may take some time. Perhaps in ON1 PhotoRaw 2022?
Not unimaginable that they will find a way to make users pay for it though, apart from requiring an upgrade to the next version of the processing software. DxO have found two other ways to get users to pay for additional features:
- The ViewPoint plugin (for correcting wide angle distortion) is standalone, but integrates with the RAW processor when both are installed.
- DxO has basic and advanced versions of the processing software (Essentials and Elite, respectively). Attractive new features like DeepPrime are only in the Elite version.
I guess every processing program will offer AI NR in the next few years.
