Got Martin Evening's LightRoom 2 Book for Xmas

Got this book for Xmas and here is my first photo adjustment after skimming the book.

It would be great to have a LightRoom tricks and hints thread. There is so much to be gained by making the right choices in LightRoom.

These are my daughters AllStars in morning light.

After a pass through LightRoom

Comments please.

What are your Ideas, Hints and Secrets.

Thanks in advance,
joe

Joe,

I got the same book from my son. It looks like you have already picked up some techniques to give some pop to your shots. By the way, you are shooting in RAW aren't you?

I just ordered this book on Wednesday. I've been a Lightroom user for a year or so now. It's time I get to know it better.

RAW RAW RAW.

I can't imagine not taking advantage of shooting RAW.

Yesterday, I ordered a couple of LR2-related titles:
--Photoshop Lightroom 2 Adventure by Mikkel Aaland
--Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 How-Tos : 100 essential techniques by Chris Orwig

I also ordered the LR2 upgrade yesterday, as well.

Getting to know LR better is one thing on my to-do list for 2009. At some point during the year, I'm hoping to add a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet to my PP setup, which I'm sure will enhance my PP even more.

I like the idea of a LR tricks and techniques thread. Maybe it could be located in the Knowledge Database.

My secret to LR2 is to download the free presets from OnOne software:

onOne Software - Downloads

They make it very easy to run through a bunch of photos (great if you shoot events or take a lot of photos in general).

Thanks for that, Alan. I actually use all the OnOne plugs-ins for PSCS4, which are brilliant. Didn't realize they had presets and free as well.

The colors look to "pop" more, but if I were to try something different, I would desaturate that image into black and white. The lighting and shadows will make it look amazing.

I played around with the image in LR2 using a combination of sliders (contrast/tone/clarity) and the free presets I posted above. I spent about a minute and a half on each version.

I have some monitor calibration issues or I'm converting to JPEG badly. Not sure but the photos in my post are washed out compared to how they look on my computer.

I do like the B&W conversion very much.

As coincidence would have it I am at the B&W conversion chapter of the book right now. This isn't something I've done a lot but it is something I would like to do more.

Thanks,
joe
