Reducing JPGs

I want to show pics to compare various lenses and I seem to be able to reduce a 5gb JPG via CM3 down to 870k at 72 pix per inch. I can't drop the size to 600k that this site needs without clobering quaility via a different program. Any ideas?

Reduce the pixel count to 2000 x 3000, 1200 x 1800, or whatever it takes.

Is that CS3 or CM3?
In CS3 you can adjust the image size keeping the aspect ratio then save as JPEG and optimise for the web.
A nice freebie that has similar functions is Paint dot net.

Sorry....CS3 and not CM3. I'll give it a shot again.....but dropping the size (pixel dimensions) is when I ran into trouble with quality. I may need to drop quality a bit but at least it will be consistent between shots to be compared..... Thanks!

If you're serious about comparing lenses, you're better off cropping than resizing, as most of the subtle differences would be rendered moot by the resize. Most people want to see 100% crops - that is, crops of any size but made without resizing.
