I went out shooting today. Used PEF for the first time. Imported with LR, used "Edit in" from the menu. Works just like I want it to work. Now we only need more lens support

It look like it's possible to import and export pre-sets in DxO? Maybe DxO users on this forum want to swap pre-sets?
DxO borrows lenses from supporters, you know. If you offer to lend them your lens for a month or so, they just might add it. They won't take my M 400/5.6, though, Darn it!

Just got latest 18-250m addition. I see that there is no Pentax addition planned for 2nd qt. Everyone should send in each month a request. They will only respond to the largest request. I ask each month for FA 50 f1.4, DA*200 f2.8, DA* 300 f4, Tamron 17-50 f2.8, 28-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, Sigma 17-70 f2.8-f4, 70-200 f2.8. Going to request 8 new ones each month. If enough of us do that each month, maybe will be noticed.

I cannot answer the second part of your question, but there are updates. I am on version 6. It still turns my DA* 16-50 into a perfect lens, my DA 12-24 is even better than it was to start with, and my DA* 50-135 is superb, except for the SDM that died its third death, and I won't get it fixed. As it happens, I am not uncomfortable manually focusing lenses, even though this focal range is the one that cries out most for autofocus. Basically, for $50 a lens, I turned really good lenses into spectacular lenses by adding DxO to my post processing.

DxO is slower than the proverbial molasses in January, but I quite enjoy a bottle of Beck's while it does its thing, and I don't have to manually correct distortions, vignetting, and other flaws.

My Flickr site has some early tests - I think they were with version 3 or 4 - if you want to check it out.

Wow. An ancient thread is revived.

I have been using DxO Standard for perhaps two years now. AFter some initial gripes, I am very happy with it now. It plays nice with my Pentax bodies, most of my commonly used lenses, and also my other cameras, and does some things very very well.

But I don't use it exclusively - Lightroom is my primary RAW processor and image manager. I also use DCU4 and a host of other software to do specialised things or solve problems as required.

With the addition of the lens profile / correction in Lightroom, is it still worth using DxO?

Thanks Canada_Rockies for your workflow.

With the latest version of Lightroom and DxO, is there an easier / automated way of getting DxO to do the import for Lightroom?

Thanks

Good point. I use the LR link when it is through with the images. As you do, I use a host of other programs when needed. Focus Magic, Hugin, Photomatix ...

Sure is. There is an LR button on the review screen that fires up LR with the DxO processed images ready to go.

Stupid question:
So the internal capabilities of LR3 are not as effective as DxO?

It depends. Each has their strengths.

DxO is better doing optical corrections, and doing general, intelligent automated fixups and image processing.

However I find Lightroom's RAW processing superior when it comes to handling high-ISO noise and in rendering detail more generally.

LR is also, of course, a comprehensive image manager/ database, as well as a powerful RAW processor. DxO isn't an image manager/database, just a fancy RAW processor really.

So I first tend to run my images through LR, then use DxO to provide a second opinion on specific images or a batch of images, or to do some tweaking using some of DxO's special tricks.

I use the opposite approach. I run everything through DxO first, and when it is done, click the [LR] button to catalog and tweak what Lightroom is better at. I did not enjoy the darkroom, and I really don't enjoy the lightroom, either - but I do want the results I get.
