K-7 Noise Ninja profile

I just spent more than a fair while taking pics of the calibration chart and creating my own noise ninja profiles for the K-7.

If anyone doesn't want to go through this process, PM me and I'll email them through to you.

Basically, I have shot all test shots in RAW, opened them using default settings in ACR, created a profile. Opened them again in ACR and processed them with 'auto' setting for exposure etc, which added approx +1.2 for exp, and profiled again. I was using 50mm manual lens.

I did this for all ISO values from 100 to 6400 in 1/3 steps.

These profiles should provide a good starting point, and seem to err in the favour of retaining details, rather than smudging, and improve even low ISO shots for the pixel peepers

How exactly does this work?

I have the K-7, lightroom 2.4 and CS2. Can I use this program?, can I purchase a standalone noise ninja that will take this profile.

Can you post some before after pictures of using these profiles.

Thank you.

I have the purchased it as a photoshop plugin, but it comes as a stand alone as well I'm pretty sure.
You can select 'Load Profiles' while using noise ninja, pretty simple process.

Here's one example. ISO 3200. No other post production, except noise reduction.

1. Entire image, unedited

2. 100% crop of same image

3. Noise Ninja, using my profile

4. 100% crop of the noise reduced image

Note again, that I have not applied sharpening, levels or curves adjustments.

Neat

PM sent!

How do you go about making Noise Ninja profiles? Does it require a test target to photograph?

you can download a copy of their test chart, follow the instructions on how to photograph it, then profile each picture. It's pretty easy.

it does not use the concept of shooting a standard (recommended by Imagenomic itself) target and building a profile like Noise Ninja or Neat Image w/ provided automated tools that expects to see that target... you can build a profile manually, based on some image as a starting point - however it is purely up to you what you will be sampling... and what was useful for one person, might be as well not useful for another... so I am not sure if sharing .NWS files will be of any good... because you do not know what person was profiling actually as a starting point and how... sharing .NWP files (where the results of self learning are being accumulated) ? I am not sure if that will be good too if even if you will be able to share them (I did not try)... you try to shoot something under various light, convert w/ various raw converters, using various NR parameters in those raw converters and open each shot in Photoshop, rum noiseware w/ self learing enabled and see what get accumulated in .NWP file (note that they are per camera model x per ISO x color mode (lab/rgb) x per color space (ProPhoto/sRGB/etc))

Hey Eagle

God work, but isn't it interesting that the 3200 iso sample isn't too bad straight up?

You must have one of those rare "good" K-7s. ( I have too, btw )
