I think it's too overprocessed. It looks like she's wearing a very smooth mask to me. Plus, the skin tone of her face no longer matches the skin tone of her arms.

After some final retouching (arms made matching the face and the daisy lighten up) I made the final print and sent it. While it may look overprocessed to some it's not supposed to look unprocessed and it's not the kind of thing I do every day so I'm allowed to go a little over the board. And while it may look a little strange on screen (and different on each monitor) it looks fine printed fine art paper. And finally, while photographers are concerned about technically perfect images, 99% of people will only care about the overall feel.

In the end, what matters is whether the client likes it.

im not so sure that's true. however as a photographer (so id like to think) I actually more often than not completely ignore the 'rules'. I almost always underexpose and my final images always get the same remarks: 'its too dark, you underexposed' I too rely heavily on an overall look and feel, not on whether I stuck to all the rules.

You worked hard on this project, Quantum, and IMHO you came up with a lovely portrait which has taken 10 years off your client (friend?) - not that she was old, of course, but she couldn't fail to be pleased with what you've done. I sometimes process pics to hell and back and other times print them virtually straight from the camera. 't all depends. Do it your way, mate.
