jpg to DVD slideshow program?

[If in wrong forum, moderators please move]
All I want to do is to select some jpg's and turn them into a (DVD) slideshow that
can be played on any TV/DVD player.
Want transitions but audio not vital.
Looking for freeware or CHEAP but stable program.
Have Roxio DE (Dell Edition) but that is the most stripped down less than demo version of
any program I ever encountered and it does not have this jpg to DVD option.
What do you use or recommend?
Thanks,
-TomK-

Windows Movie Maker (free) - does the minimun what you want. Now you want a top end (and somewhat pricey) program I use Photodex Pro Show Producer 4.x it can produce some seriously stunning professional looking slide shows. As for playing on any DVD player I have good success with TDK brand from Costoc +R or -R both seem to work well.

I would not really calls Windows Movie Maker stable for the limited times I have used it , but like most windows programs save often and you'll be fine (the larger slide shows where a couple hundred pictures get's somewhat unstable).

another vote for the free download from Microsoft "Photostory 3" A real gem.
Its only drawback is that it doesn't burn DVD's directly.
A great solution is to buy the $25 addin from SONIC (online) called "Sonic DVD for Windows Photostory3". It simply adds DVD burning to Photostory and it works brilliantly.

Now that sounds like what I am after. Will check it out.
I don't think the other programs do what I want = DVD.
My version of Movie Maker does not do DVD format and looking at the websites
for the others (low end) they seem to either only burn to CD or produce something other
than a universal DVD format.

Movie Maker in Vista burns to DVD only XP doesn't have that capability. I've created slideshow DVDs of flowers with music added in Movie Maker adding transistions, and effects. But I was running Vista.

And CopytoDVD only copies movies, it doesn't create slideshows, at not the version I have.

"All I want to do is to select some jpg's and turn them into a (DVD) slideshow that can be played on any TV/DVD player"
I have been using Nero Burning Ron component NeroVision (still ver. 7 which does everything I want). I open The NeroVision and select Slide show. I simply open Windows Explorer select the images I want and drag and drop then into the slide window. Through the music TAB I drop enough MP3 files to match the length of the show. You can select from the fades supplied. I have included as many as 200 images to a set.
You can choose to have a menu if there are more than one set of images. You can then burn direct to disk ar create an ISO file (NRG) for burning later.

Just want to put a closure to this thread.
Thanks to all for your input and suggestions.
I decided to go with photostory and the Sonic plug-in.
It does just about what I wanted and then some, including music.
Note to those viewing this - as far as I can determine this combo does not do "chapters".
That was not one of the original requirements that I asked about and I probably
will not need that but just wanted to add some additional info for others reading this thread.
So now my aunts & uncles can see my hours and hours of me vacation photos,
just like with slides.
Just kidding.
(Maybe)

Oh, and the OS I am using is XP.
