Even Topaz Can't Get the Noise Out What Would You Do ?

The circled area is what concerns me ... is there a masking technique that I should know about :- )

Image was shot 1600 ISO, Pentax K20D, 125fps, and f3.5, 50-135mm lens (I know the image is not sharp, just for demo purposes).

Anyone feel free to have at it, just tell me what you did.

This looks like the K20D "high-ISO magenta cast" problem, for which GordonBGood has developped a program. See the following thread on DPReview: Magenta edge tinging at high ISO and a possible solution...: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

I'm having difficulty running the program, any advice appreciated. I have Windows Vista which i'm pretty new to. I've downloaded the 0900 ZIP file to the Desktop user download folder for the program, extracted the ReadMe and a 34KB application file. Then when i click on it to run it, I get back a descriptive text describing what it was intended for K20 and all that, then a Browse option to specify a folder destination. I do the browse thing, click on correct and then nothing seems to happen.

What am i doing wrong, this fix sounds too good to miss. thanks in advance

Topaz Denoise should be able to handle that noise. Have you tried using the "Clean" or the "Color noise" sliders?

If it really won't clean up, why not just make a mask of the area and apply a gaussian blur to that area?

What about selectively removing magenta/purple from that area, or even the photo as a whole?

Do you have photoshop? I selected smart sharpen, 1.9 pixels, 19% and applied it to the full image. then used the selection tool to select the area and ran surface blur radius6 and threshold 12. Next, same 2 previous steps (smart sharpen/surface blur) but to the entire image. Then a 19% shadows and highlights and a slight curves adjust.

Some ideas. First concerns the area you are remarking on. Mask layer, Gaussian blur.

Additional idea: Clone left upper area using selections from right upper area.

Front snake body darkened slightly bringing more attention to snake head and hiding some of the noise in the snake's body.

I didn't use any noise software, just a few down and dirty tricks, nothing elaborate. Noise sucks.

I like the clone idea as it adds depth to the snake-like body being oof.

Guys, thanks !

I will give those ideas a try. Sometimes you have to use highISO and although Topaz is great, there is no one solution.

I enjoy playing with stuff like this (and I use Topaz). Could you please post a better copy without the red outline somewhere?
