Suggestion for a calibration software/hardware?

I'm a serious amateur photographer. I just purchased a Dell 2209WA which I understand is a good budget monitor that can be reasonably well calibrated. I am obviously interested in getting accurate color from my monitor to my printer...

There are many options and 'levels' available for calibration hardware... what would you all suggest?

Thanks,

Ken Knott

I have the same monitor. I use Spyder2 along with HCFR Calorimetre free software. I have been following the advice of this site--quite satisfied so far.

I use the HueyPro with an older Dell LCD monitor and it does a good job calibrating my monitor.

Things o' beauty, ain't they? About the cheapest IPS available - hopefully, they'll drive down prices.

I just got one, too. And, yes, I need to calibrate it as well.

I'm using the Color Munki Photo. It's also used to pull ICC profiles for the printer. A very handy little thing.

I'm using an X-Rite Eye1 Pro. I don't know if it's any better than the others that are out there, but I used X-Rite densitometers forever in the photo lab industry, so it was a no brainer to go back to a known brand of calibration tool when it came to monitor calibration.

You can try these free website color charts and your eye.

Display Calibration - DisplayCalibration.com - Calibrate your computer display or monitor online for optimal viewing. Brightness, contrast, color depth, resolution and freeware software downloads.

Photo Friday: Monitor Calibration Tool

Post a few photos in the galleries and see how they "blend" with everyone elses.

Works surprisingly well (at least I have gotten some "nice colors" comments).
