Just to clarify: I was interested in seeing examples of images that keep "the look of PP to a minimum".

I agree that the above shot has issues but what disturbs me more than the blurring -- at this resolution -- are the patches of different brightness. It looks like a tanning job gone wrong. She might have looked that way (?) but it is not flattering.

This isn't my best PPing but I was working with a deadline.

I'd like to think I'm pretty conservative with the skin and eyes. What do you think?

Just shot Kalli, she has almost perfect skin, just did a little PP - a few zits removed from her right cheek(heal tool) & slight lightening under left eye (dodge tool)

Standard tight beauty shot - A tight shot like this require quite abit of PP under eyes and lips no matter how good the model's skin is. If not clients are not happy
Sam retouched
Sam minimal retouched
Danielle typical beauty PP

Sorry about the the large jpgs. but I thought it was imperative when talking about PP. I have received a few pm's about technical data. All images shot with my nifty 50 1.4 SMC-A on a K20 and various Beauty dishes - 16" & 22" stock Norman dishes, and 33.5" Mola dish for studio shots. However, you don't need $600 + in beauty dishes to produce beautiful beauty shoots!

Portraits are generally intended to convey the likeness and personality of the subject.

Glamour shots, on the other hand, are generally intended to convey beauty and style, etc.

Generally, more retouching is appropriate for glamour than portraits; but as always, both are subject to taste and preference.

The final arbiter of what looks good in a portrait is usually the subject, especially if it's paid work. The photographer may retouch as they feel appropriate, but their job is generally to please their client. If it's work intended for publication, especially for a celebrity portrait, art directors and editors may get involved in deciding what look they want.

Some portraits may tend to look somewhat like glamour shots. In the case of some attractive people, especially celebrities, glamour may be part of their life and a reflection of their personality. Their is no distinct line between portraiture and glamour. The genres may overlap in some cases.

Any chance of seeing a "before" of some of these?

OK, I think this thread has better samples....

How on earth do you guys get that much detail? Is it possible to do that with a K-x? How do you "heal" spots with such clarity of detail?
