Item Description

I bought this lens to play around with. I haven't used it that much simply because I don't do much telephoto shooting. It works quite well wide open in aperture priority mode on my K10D, rendering good detail and great bokeh. When switched over to Manual mode and stop-down metered with the green button as described here, it is one of the sharpest telephoto lenses I have ever seen.

This lens is not SMC coated so you don't want to shoot directly into a light source. Fortunately the lens includes a built-in retractable lens hood. I find the images are a little flat right out of the camera but I can really make them pop with a little post processing in Lightroom. Here are some sample photos taken with my K10D (which I am also selling).

See a gallery of photos and additional lens details here.

This is a relatively small lens that has found a good home in my camera bag. For only $60 you can't really go wrong!

I will accept PayPal and will ship via standard ground service anywhere in the continental US at my expense.

Sold the A-50 and FA35. This is a great little lens for the $$. Awesome for street photography as you can get in tight to your subject without looking like you're pointing a big lens at them:

ROBERT'
I am interested in the lens. Your photos closed the deal. Any problems using the lens with an appropriate adaptor on 5d2? Anything about the lens that would interfere with image quality? Can I use filters?

David-

I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a 5D with a K-mount adapter.

Filters work fine. I have used it with a circular polarizer quite a bit. If you notice in my photos you will see that there are internal threads on the lens and external threads on the built-in lens hood. Depending on the filter used you may not be able to extend the lens hood, though.

Keep in mind that my posted photos on flickr have required a fair amount of post processing to get the look you see. I shoot in RAW and PP in Lightroom. I have found the Direct Positive Preset is a good starting point for getting images from the Tak to have the same kind of pop I get from modern glass. Many times that's all I have to do. Straight out of the camera the images tend to look a little low contrast for my taste. But, I have never had any problem dialing them in in PP to get what I wanted. You just can't shoot into the sun or the flare will wash out most of the image.

Robert;
I had understood that the quality of the images out of the camera, particularly in Black and white were contrasty and very sharp. You seem to be saying otherwise.
Would a polarizing filter mitigate the lens flare? (what size filter?) It would appear that there is a tradeoff between smc tak @3.5 and non smc @ 2.5.
thanks for your patience.

Yes, a polarizer helps with the flare but the images from a non-SMC lens do not have the same "pop" on a DSLR as the SMC coated lenses. They are very sharp, though- espically when stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6. I think it's a 55mm filter thread. The lens is at my office so I will have to verify Monday.

Here's another thing you can do with this lens. 270mm equivalent on the Olympus Pen.
