[SOLD] DA 12-24mm f/4 lens (Worldwide) Marketplace Listing

DA 12-24mm f/4 lens

Item Description
DA12-24mm purchased a few months ago from another forum members mostly for a car shoot for a good friend. This lens took some of my best photos. At 12mm, it's wider than the DA15mm. That 3mm difference is a lot at the wide end when you're in a small cramped space. I was able to get photos that were impossible with the DA15. Very few lens made for the Pentax mount comes close to the distortion control of this lens at 12mm, definitely not the Sigma 10-20mm at least. It also functions great as a portrait lens at 24mm, surprisingly. Color, contrast and sharpness is absolutely top notch as well, I've no complaint here. It's also the most versatile wide angle zoom available at 12mm difference. It's simply great for just about any occasion and photoshoot.

It's in perfect working order. Accurate focusing, smooth focusing/zoom rings, no dust, clean aperture, etc.

Cosmetically, there is some wear on the plastic hood and it comes with a quality 3rd party front cap to replace the lost Pentax cap. The body of the lens is in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear.

Comes with original box, manual and anything else that was in the box.

Reason for sale? I don't like using auto focus, just a very strong personal preference. However, I had to purchase this lens because there are no manual focus rectilinear alternatives at 12mm. At least none for under $1000 that I know of. I'm very sorry to see this lens go as it's been living on my camera for the last few weeks. I just don't want to fall into the temptations of auto focus. AF is inherently evil and leads otherwise good photographers astray. AF is truly an instrument of the devil. One can only redeem himself with Takumars and Angenieux lenses.

Images of the lens itself:

I've documented all the scruff marks and wear I could find on this lens. I didn't bother taking many photos of the glass because it is immaculate. No cleaning marks or scratches.

Sample photos I've taken with this lens in the past month:

I must compliment your stellar photography. Might I inquire as to what kind of post processing was done on these shots? They're nothing less than superb.

Hangu, there is slim pickings on this width in the older glass. Why not just turn the Kx body to MF and do the same to the lens. If it makes you feel better then, tape, glue or loc-tite it into this position...and the devil is behind you, consider him summarily exorcised.

How could I resist after your kind words on my sales thread?

Just uploaded photos of the lens itself. I've documented all the scruff marks I can find and enlarged them so you know what you're getting.

I'm really hoping for someone domestic before I ship this internationally. Domestic means I can use one of those automated postal centers which takes 5 minutes. Worldwide means I have to wait in line for 30 minutes and deal with one of those under-paid surly mail office workers who'd rather put cigarette burns on themselves than help me mail something off.

I've been using one of these lenses for the past few months and am extremely pleased with the performance, even if it is AutoFocus (anagram for Satan? Almost!). It works ok on manual focus as well.

I have to agree with all the seller's comments regarding quality of the lens and results. This has been my favorite Pentax AF lens purchase.
