Personally have owned both the DA and DA-L, I don't know why people pay extra... but hey not my money I am throwing away!
This lens is in great shape... but I have 3 lenses in this focal length and this one loses out... so your win... (No, I am not keeping the DA, that is long gone!)
I have taken great stuff with this lens and I find 300mm to be a great 'reach' where you can still really easily handhold even in dimmer light...
The plastic mount makes this a great light weight hiking lens, and has never felt 'cheap' to me...
I have a hood that fits that I can include...
I can send sample pics and images of the lens to anyone who wants...
