Hin, you may want to clarify that the 135mm lens is f/2.8, not f/2. I know you meant 1:2 macro, but it comes across as the lens being f/2.

Shout out for the Vivitar 135/2.8 CF. Great lens with long focus through. It was Hin's thorough lens reports that promoted me to buying this lens.

Couldn't find them after long searches and ended up springing for a screwmount version. Great and affordable macro/tele and will keep you a little farther back from the critters if they give you the jitters!

Thanks! TC is sold to Nick. Sorry to RayGunn who has not replied my PM unfortunately. I have to yield to members with payment first. Hope no harm is done.

Using a 2x TC is against logic on a tele-lens but I like it occasional use as I don't normally like to drag with heavy equipment in hiking with my family. TC has an important place for me on telephoto use as Pentax is scarce on tele-lens option. I used once on this TC along with Pentax F* 300mm f/4.5. It still AF but it is sluggish and I actually prefer to use it on MF so that you can dial in the actual SR focal length. In AF, the camera consider it unchanged in focal length with 300mm. In MF, I can dial in the actual SR focal length as in 600mm.

1/1600 sec, 600mm, f/6.3, iso 2000, O Ev

The Tamron Pz-AF 1.4x MC4 TC is still available for sale and it is best in Image Quality as it does not lose that much light, around 1/2 of a stop. It is the few TC that works with SDM as it has the SDM contacts. It works with my DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 though I wouldn't use a TC on the DA* zoom. I am very surprised that nobody asks for it.

Thanks!

Pete, thanks for the kind words and support. I hold on to this lens as long as I can as it is a lens that is harder to find than others. It is one of the 135mm that has close focusing to 1:2 macro ratio. And it is quite a good lens to use in candid shots

I post this in another sale thread:

That is truly an awesome lens that one can't find easily on 135mm in Pentax mount. It has beautiful bokeh, you can also see how I used it on a wedding along with Tamron 28-75mm f/2/8 and FA 50mm f/1.4 in this flickr set on a wedding

Besides macro, this one is a wonderful lens on candid due to its great bokeh and color. It is perhaps not the sharpest lens in wide open aperture but quite reasonable and I love these old shot of mine from this lens

Vivitar/Komine 135mm f/2.8 Close Focusing 1:2 Macro

But of course, you get your money worth mostly in its 1:2 macro. It has a large minimal focusing distance that give you advantage on shooting butterflies and other timid insects.

Warmest,
Hin

Me too. Ok, I will! Not that I need it, but it's so rare and who knows, I might need/want it one day. So, I'll take it! Sending a PM.

edit: ps. I know there was a line for the Sigma 105, but if the buyers fall/fell thru, I'd take that too.

Yes, but I am still far away from 3 to 4 more batches of selling. I am definitely closer than I started.

Thanks,
Hin

Wedding Shots with Vivitar/Komine 135mm f/2.8 CF

Here are few wedding shots that I had using this lens with K10D in a church dim lighting. Color and sharpness is decent as far I could ask for. You can check on the bokeh on the background with soft and quite circular ringed lights from candles.

All were taken with Pentax K10D. It is a painful lens to let go. No one has shown any interest yet!

You shoot w/a MF lens on a wedding job? You got guts .... and skills!

I regards to " 3 to 4 more batches", so do I see correctly on your blog that you already sold your 50-135/2.8?

It was a good friend of mine and he already hired a team of photographers in the count of 3. I only shot candid on the background and sidelines more for my own fun. But guess what, even if was a paid job, I would have used manual lens especially indoor as my K20D really slow in AF locking in the dark, and use it as a complement to my event duals with DA* 50-135mm and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8.

I am not yet ready to sell my DA* 50-135mm f/2.8, it will be a while to get to the last batch of selling. And to be honest, I will very much like to keep the DA* as that is the best zoom that I have ever loved and used in Pentax. My SDM lens never gives me a problem, if it dies, it is alright as I have my best time with it.

Thanks,
Hin
