[SOLD] FS: Zenitar Fisheye K-mount

LOCATION: Sydney, Australia

For sale is a beautiful Zenitar fisheye - it has only been used for less than 10 test shots, and so it is in PERFECT BRAND NEW condition.

I bought this from Russia, but using it has convinced me that I am going to do a fair bit of wide end photography, so I am getting the more expensive Pentax 10-17mm lens.

I am looking to get back the money I spent on it, so if you are in Australia and want to get one of these lenses, but don't want to wait 4 weeks for it to arrive from Russia, this is your chance!

PRICE: AU$190 plus $10 express post

Pickup from Sutherland Shire is fine
Payment method: cash (if picking up), direct deposit, or paypal ($5 extra for paypal)

INCLUDES:
Zenitar-K 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens
Front and rear lens caps
Lens case and strap
Three 26.5mm filters (light red, light yellow, dark yellow)
Filter case
Manual

SPECS:
Focal length, mm: 16
Flange base, mm 45.5
Relative aperture:
- maximum f/2.8
- minimum f/22
Angular field of view (to a frame diagonal): 180
Minimum taking distance, m: 0.3 (1 foot)
Lens buildup: 10 lenses in 7 components
Center resolution: 60 lines/mm
Lens fitting thread: M 26.5x0.5

Final price reduction - I have just reduced the price again. If there is no interest in this awesome Z, then I will be putting it on ebay at the end of the week.
Thanks, Dave

Can you post some of the test shots? What camera did you use it on? What is the image quality like? Is it a full auto lens (focus/aperture)?

I don't have any photos to post from the Zenitar - I didn't use it long enough to get any decent shots. I bought it to see if I liked the fisheye style of lens - I decided I do, so I put it away and purchased a pentax 10-17.

It is a manual focus lens.

You can find lots of sample photos from this lens on both this site and drpreview by doing a search for "zenitar" or "z"

Some info/opinions on this lens:

Hope this helps!

Here's what it can do on a *istDS:

Edit: sorry - removed the second shot as I think it was taken with a 28.

I edited it in the initial post to show the price reductions - has come down from $210 to $190.

This is as low as it will go - I'll be ebaying it soon if no inteest is shown.

Cheers, Dave

I hope you won't feel offended, I mean this as constructive suggestion.
This lens is readily avail ebay buy-now at US$145 plus $25 worldwide shipping.

For a used one (no matter how little used) you'd expect ebay people want 15-20% discount, then subtracting fees, it leaves you around US$130 = A$160 including shipping. Here you're asking for over A$200.

No offense, but it's probably a good idea to only post in the market place section if you are interested in purchasing - I wouldn't show up to auctions and give my advice on why the house is not worth a certain amount! If you aren't interested in this lens, that's fine.

Having said that, I will respond to your advice:

The advantage is not having to wait up to a month for shipping from Russia (which I did with my zenitar), and having the possibility of finding out it is a faulty copy of the lens (thus buying from me would actually have more assurance than buying new, not less - since it is difficult to return a DOA lens to Russis anyway). I am happy to offer full refund if the lens is found to be DOA (which it won't - since I've tested it!) or if it is not as described (completely brand new condition).

With me, you know it has been tested and will arrive within 2 days of payment.

Some people do not like buying from overseas (especially Eastern Europe), or from Ebay, so this sale would also suit them.

Regarding price: At current exchange rates $US170 is over AU$200, so this sale will also save you a few dollars. (note that Paypal and your Credit Card Provider do not go with market rates, but skim a couple of cents per dollar, meaning this sale is even better value).

Thanks, Dave

It is ok to take suggestions in the interest of the forum

Hi!
Just felt what Kguru is advising is in the interest of the forum as long as what he says is right.

Well, I know what he says is right because I have the Zenit myself.

The time and the fees etc that you mentioned about ebay are partially true. On ebay the sellers pay the fees. Most buyers have the lens stocked and dont have to wait for it to come from Russia.

I have always bought stuff at comfortable prices on the forum than outside.

Kind regards,

Tasha

I'm mildly interested, evident by the fact I had looked up price and availability on Ebay (even before your FS notice). But similarly to you I'm weighing it against the 10-17 and if the saving is not significant then it's not in the running.

I did state very clearly I meant it entirely as being constructive.

Cheers

Yeah no worries. My comment was more in general - that this section be kept free of general discussion. Sorry.

For me, the reason I went with the 10-17 came down to auto focus - I'm not great at manual focus (I think you need a good eye for it, and I'm too impatient!)

Image quality, I think the Zenitar just has the edge on the 10-17, so if manual focus isn't a problem, I'd say definitely think about getting the Zenitar - unless you are able to find the 10-17 for a really good price.

Hi Chris, I remember that place! It's the Parliament House in Canberra, right? My wife and I went there over 5 years back (and Sydney, Melbourne as well), one of our best trips.

The Zenitar FE is indeed a great little lens.
