Item Description
Got this lens to try as I was very drawn by the 16 bladed aperture and the promise of a wonderful bokeh that would entail. This lens does not disappoint at all in bokeh or sharpness. At the end of the day however, I had to choose between this and the Voigtlander 90mm f3.5 - and I chose to let this go, with significant regret. The Voigtlander is slower by almost a stop, but its close focus ability and easier handling made me choose this. In terms of optical quality, both are on par, with the voigtlander having a slight edge due to its modern coating.

The Travenar is a wonder piece of German glass with great optics and mechanics. It is sharp wide open, and gets better stopped down - at f8, the sharpness is blistering. The bokeh is wonderfully creamy, and using it wide open is a great way to isolate your subject, even if the background is rather busy. The stopped down bokeh is still beautiful with perfectly circular highlights. I have just posted a review of this lens at the 3rd party lens review forum:

Condition of lens:
Like new, the lens is in great shape for its age. Please note that there is a cosmetic flaw at the mount of the lens - my fault really, I tried to drill a hole for the locking pin on my K20D to catch on the lens. Its not well done and I missed the spot, but I realised that the lens catches perfectly well without the locking pin anyway, so I did not modify it further. This flaw is only cosmetic in nature, and it does not affect the functioning of the lens nor its optics in any way. You can see the flaw in the 3rd photo, on the right side of the lens.

Finally, I will throw in a M42 to K mount adaptor with the lens. This is my way of making up for the cosmetic flaw I caused. The adaptor is not the original pentax m42 adaptor, but works fine. This adaptor reaches infinity focus.
