The lens is in excellent condition.

Cosmetic condition is nearly perfect. There are some small hints of handling here and there but nothing significant. Specifically, there is are a couple of spots of thin paint on the front, inside the filter ring. I received the lens like this. I have tried to capture this in the photographs.

Optically, the lens appears to be perfect. Certainly no haze, fungus, chips, picks, imperfections or scratches.

Mechanically this lens is perfect. AF is fast and accurate, the aperture is "snappy," there is an absence of oil on the blades, and the aperture ring clicks smartly into place. The manual focusing ring is well damped, and without any hitches or roughness.

Overall Excellent. I am selling this lens because I found and purchased the FA 50mm f/1.7 version of this lens which is relatively rare.

Lens comes with a rear cap ad the original front cap.

Terms: Payment via PayPal. Shipped upon clearing of payment via USPS Priority Mail/Insured/Delivery Confirmation. Buyer may inspect and return the lens withing four (4) days of receipt; return shipping to be borne by buyer unless the lens is significantly not as described or is DOA.

The F 50mm f/1.7 is generally regarded as being sharper than the f/1.4 up to f/2.8. MTF data for the two lenses:

FA 50mm f1.4 Weighted MTF 50 mm: f1.4 0.50 | f2 0.66 | f2.8 0.75 | f4 0.82 | f8 0.84

Some interesting trivia here is that this lens is NOT a downmarket F/FA 50mm f/1.4. The optical formula for this lens was derived from the optical formula for the Takuma 55mm f/1.8. The optical formula for the 1.4 is derived from the formula for the Takumar 50mm f/1.4.

Given it's heritage in the 55mm f/1,8, the f/1.7 can easily trace its lineage back to the 55mm lens produced in the pre-set days. This line was perfected in the lens released as the Auto-Takumar Zebra 55mm 1.8 sold exclusively with the Pentax "K" of 1958.

Found your discussion interesting and thought provoking. I have the A 50 f1.7 version and wish I could justify to going to auto; it's a fantasic lens.

Sorry for the confusion. I am selling an F 50mm f/1.7.

The reason i am selling it is that I tracked down and purchased the rarer FA 50mm f/1.7 version of the lens.

I just sold one of those FA's on the forum, they are quite nice and much rarer then the F's.

The F and FA are the same optical formula. The F is a tiny bit more compact.

Credit where credit is due. Blue, another member here provided those numbers somewhere on this foprum... The f/1.4 data is likely from photozone.de. Blue dug up the MTF on the f/1.7 somewhere... I think it is somewhere in the threads that I referenced above, or in threads referenced in those threads... sorry, I forget, but generally I feel that they are consistent with my experience and the discussions held here generally on this lens.

I love the subject isolation that can be achieved with this lens...
