what effect does the loose clip, missing screw have on actual functionality of the m42 adapter?

I always used the adapter securely mounted to the lens, no lock tight. This turned the M42 mount into a K mount. Attaching the clip and screw will allow the adapter to stay on the camera during M42 lens change. I got it from KEH several years ago. It came to me loose and scratched.
