[SOLD] Pentax F 1.7x AF adapter (New) (Worldwide)

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax F 1.7x AF adapter (New)

Asking Price
US$349

Item Location
Tokyo, Japan

Item Description
Pentax F 1.7x AF Adapter

I have 5 available for immediate shipment.

As of December 1st, 2010 Pentax has increased the retail price of this item to approximately US$500.

How long I can hold my price of US$349 will depend on my supplier's current inventory. It may last a few weeks or it may only last a couple of days.

Item condition:
- Brand new, unused.

I would rate the condition of this converter as mint. This item is un-opened box, never used. This item comes with open warranty certificate, but I'm not sure if Pentax warranty is transferable from the original owner (me). For obvious reasons, I'm unable to supply the original purchase receipt. It would be best to assume that this item has no manufacturer's warranty. I am, however, willing to offer a 30 day money back warranty in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.

Item description:
This converter is suitable for all digital and 35mm film SLR cameras, which has a Pentax K-mount.

This adapter needs no introduction. If you're looking at this listing, you should know all the details already. However, to be fair to the newbies, I will state that this adapter not only works as a 1.7x teleconverter, but it also adapts an older manual focus lens into an autofocus lens. So, in effect, your 50mm f1.4 manual focus lens becomes an 85mm f2.5 autofocus lens!

Other included items:
- This converter comes complete with both front and rear caps, soft pouch, instruction manual (Japanese), warranty certificate (see note above), and box as per original package.

See picture below.

How does it behave with A-series lenses? Does the camera display show them as AF or MF?

I already have a AF adapter and it works as you would expect for M-series lenses - the camera thinks there is an AF lens attached and provides AF options. However when I connect an A-series (or newer) the camera displays 'MF' and won't allow me to choose AF options. Also the metering is wrong and the F number is displayed on the screen but not the viewfinder, which displays F--.

At the moment I depress the shutter it suddenly switches to AF mode, focuses, displays an F number, and changes the metering. Then it begins rapidly cycling between the AF state and the MF state. Sometimes I get a correct exposure and sometimes I don't (I think depending on if it used the MF or AF metering value.)

If they are all like this then there's no point me buying another, but if mine is faulty then I will need a new one.

If someone can chime in and help answer rumpole's questions, I'd be most obliged.

I don't currently have an A-series lens to experiment with.

Cheers,
Tom

It behaves as any other A lens with limited AF. Powering on the camera, you would choose the focal length of the lens, Back LCD does indicate AF-S, AF-C or MF depending on the focus setting on the camera. Displays both aperture and shutter values in the top LCD and in the viewfinder - except for choosing the focal length at power on, it behaves like an auto-focus lens with limited AF range.

Thanks,
