Yes, the bottom attaches to a standard 1/4' - 20 tripod mount, and the camera attaches to the macro rail (see third picture) using the same standard tripod thread of 1/4" - 20.

I just mounted a D300 on it, and attached a Manfrotto RC2 quick plate to be sure. It definitely uses a "standard" tripod thread.

how small of increments can it be moved?

yeatzee- When turned the rail knob moves in one smooth continuous motion, then you lock it down using the locking mechanism.

I've never seen anything like this before from Pentax, so it is very intriguing

So you can, move it back or forth as little or as much as you want? This is the perfect Item for stacking

It's pretty cool. If I were into Macro I would have kept it for myself. I'll probably get into it more in the future and regret selling it LOL!

There is some info about it in the accessories section of this site.
