[ACQUIRED] Lensbaby....

Hey.. just trying to test the waters. Seeing if anyone has a lensbaby the would be willing to sell..
Looking for Muse or Composer... for the right price, as I said, just testing the waters. Wanting to get my hands on a cheap on and see if I indeed like it.

Why not build your own tilt lens?

Why not build your own tilt lens?

Here is mine:

I had thought about that as a neat project. Will it work with any lens? I have a spare Sears 50 f2 I may try with. (only cost $10, why not)

Still interested in a Lensbaby though.

Jay,

Typically these projects use old medium (e.g. 6x6) format lenses, typically the Carl-Zeiss-Jena or Russian equivalents, because the arey cheap, have excellent optics and will be modded so that they cannot be used in their originally intended way :-)

I can think of two reasons why it needs to be medium format:
1. Medium format gives you plenty of "headroom" tilting and shifting the lens over your much smaller APS-C or 35mm-format chip.
2. AND you need the larger distance between the lens and the focal plane, because you will add all the mechanics (bellows in my case). So a lens made for 35mm will be too far away from the focal plane.
This should also be the reason why tilt adapters like ARSAT are only available for medium format lenses.

So my guess is that lenses made for 35mm film will not work.

Cheers from Berlin,

jephi
